Did you know that you can help to save the world with your searches? By switching your preference in search engines from Google/Bing over to the likes of OceanHero or Ecosia, you are helping these sites to raise money to clean up the planet.
Environmentally Friendly Search Engines
How do these search engines raise money for their cause?
No matter if you use Google, Bing, Yahoo, or any other search engine, you have most likely seen adverts at the top and bottom of the search results. When a user clicks on one of these adverts the company who pays for the advert gets charged a fee. On a mainstream search engine, the fee goes to the search engine provider, and normally towards their revenue/profits. However, on sites such as Ecosia and OceanHero, the revenue raised from adverts within their search results goes towards their cause.
Are the search results any good?
Yes. Even though these sites are independent, they gather their search engine results from Microsoft (Bing/Yahoo Search Indexes). So you are in essence getting the same search results are you would on these search engines, however, you are helping raise funds for environmental causes.
Does it cost me anything?
No. These search engines are free to use and can be used exactly the same way as you use your traditional search engine.
