Two Pints of Larger and a Packet of Crisps Filming Locations

Two Pints of Lager and a Packet of Crisps is a British sitcom that aired from 2001 to 2011. Created by Susan Nickson, the show is set in the fictional town of Runcorn, Cheshire, and follows the lives and relationships of five twenty-somethings: Jonny, Janet, Gaz, Donna, and Louise. In this post we look at the Two Pints of Larger and a Packet of Crisps Filming Locations.

The majority of the external filming took place in and around Runcorn. A number of well known locations from the area pop up in the opening credits and throughout the series. These include, Silver Jubilee Bridge, Halton Castle and Fiddler’s Ferry Power Station.

The Archer

One pf the key filming locations outside of the television studio is the groups local pup, The Archer.

At the time of filming, The Waterloo, High Street, Runcorn was used as the external filming location of The Archer. In recent years unfortunately The Waterloo has closed but the building is still very recognisable from the show. The internal scenes from the pub were filmed in BBC Television Centre.

The Mayhew

The Mayhew which appears in the opening credits is only seen within the early episodes. The external filming location for this was The Wellington, Wellington Street, Runcorn. After series one, The Archer became the primary pub used by the group as their local.

Johnny and Janet’s House Filming Location

The external shots of Johnny and Janet’s house were filmed outside 9 Clarks Terrace, Runcorn.

Gaz and Donna’s Flat

The location used for Gaz and Donna’s flat was above the shops on Church Street, Runcorn. The entrance to the flat is at the rear and can be seen from Alcock Street.

Gaz’s Garage

Brindley Auto Services on Brindley Street, Runcorn acted as the external frontage of Gaz’s Garage. While the name has changed, this building is still used as a car garage today.

The Bakery

The bakery where Janet (and briefly Louise) worked is located on Church Street, Runcorn. Currently the building remains as a bakery called Pound Bakey.

Series 1 Episode 4 – Angry Wangry

Gaz leads Johnny in a local club/bar called Chambers. This sill exists today while the Scala building seen next door in the image below has now been demolished.

Series 2 Episode 2 – Bungle

Johnny wins £1000 on a scratch card but doesn’t know what to spend his hard earned winnings on. Janet is anticipating he will spend it on her, possibly on an engagement ring. To everyone’s surprise, not least Janet’s he spends it on hiring a bouncy castle and a man in a Bungle costume.

This was filmed at the back of The Wilsons Hotel, 24-30 Bridge St, Runcorn WA7 1BY

Series 3 Episode 1 – Munch

In this episode we see Johnny on the hunt for a job. During which he visits Workforce. This as filmed on Devonshire Place, Runcorn.

Series 3 Episode 4 – Beastiality

During this episode Gaz and Johnny visit the chip shop. This was filmed on the corner of Brindley Street and Cawdor Street.

Series 4 Episode 8 – Filthy Brunch

Gaz is having manhood issues so is paying a reluctant visit to the Doctors. When leaving the medical centre he bumps into Donna who is waiting for a bus to go and see her lecturer.

This was filmed outside Heath Road Medical Centre on the corner of Heath Road Road and Langdale Road in Runcorn.

Series 5 Episode 8 – Fat

In this episode we see an overweight Gaz collecting a few pizza’s for his lunch. This was filmed outside 72 High Street, Runcorn. At the time of filming it is was a pizza shop named Pizza Hot. It is now called the Runcorn Kebab House.
